A Scream of Swifts

A Scream of Swifts is an installation by Carolyn Murphy, created in three panels for the FLOW exhibition at Brixton Library (June 2026), where it featured on all three central gallery windows. An individual panel was first shown at Intersect exhibition in Stratford, East London (Oct / Nov 2025). It reflects on the 60% loss of swift number in the UK in one human generation. The work consists of 2 layers of linocut swifts, hand printed onto tissue paper, with perforated and laser cut swifts in the lower section. Framed by a linocut on Japanese paper, suggesting modern high-rise architecture, the work in Brixton measured approximately 61 cm x 175 cm. The original test work was suspended from a baton and measured approximately 48 cm x 140 cm.
