Postcard for Twitter Art Exhibit 2022

Carolyn Murphy is donating a postcard-sized original artwork to this year’s Twitter Art Exhibit in York. A regular contributor to TAE, Carolyn created an etching for the 2022 charity art sale. ‘Staying local’ is hand-coloured with watercolours and it’s based on a sketch she made during the lockdowns last year. The work shows a scene on her doorstep and holds onto the small patches of nature in the urban environment.

‘Staying local’ and over a thousand other artworks will go on sale at the charity art sale on Saturday 25 June, and online, in aid of the Encephalitis Society. To find out more about Twitter Art Exhibit, check out them out on Twitter @twitartexhibit or via the Twitter Art Exhibit website. This year, Carolyn has contributed blog posts as one of the volunteer official Twitter Art Exhibit bloggers. You can see posts from Carolyn and others here.

Printing the Giant Linocut

Carolyn Murphy is in the process of printing a giant A1 linocut commission for Macmillan. Currently at the half way stage, after 3 colours, there are spot colours to hand print, before it goes through the press twice more.

The scale of the linocut alone presents it’s own challenges. Take a look at the video to get a feel for the size!

The third colour transformed the print further today. Printed on the Polymetaal press at Hot Bed Press in Salford, it now looks a lot brighter. You can follow progress of this huge linocut print and learn more about the commission on Carolyn’s blog

Come along to our Chorlton Exhibition event

On Sunday 18 February you are invited along to Chorlton’s Printmaking Exhibition at the World Peace Café from 5-7pm. Carolyn Murphy and Cate Gibson’s work is on show at the café until 28 February and this is a chance to meet the artists, see a wide range of their work and join them for refreshments and a chat.

All the work is for sale and there will be new cards available and new original work especially for the event.

You can see original linocuts, etchings and collagraphs by both artists, who are based in South Manchester.

World Peace Café is at 76 High Lane, Chorlton in Manchester, part of the Buddhist Centre, opposite St John’s Church. Everyone is very welcome.
