Inspired by Manchester

‘Inspired by Manchester’, a pop-up exhibition in Sale town centre, includes work by Carolyn Murphy. The exhibition, organised by Neighbourhood Gallery, features work by artists from across the North West of England in a range of media. It’s the first time that Carolyn has submitted work, so it was great to see ‘Bridgewater Canal’ on the wall, alongside some fabulous artists. Carolyn also had some of her linocuts in the window and all works were for sale.

The exhibition runs from 9 February to 2 March with a private view on 8 February 2024. It’s an exhibition of works “inspired by Manchester’s iconic cityscapes, spirited people and vibrant culture”.

‘Bridgewater Canal’ is an etching, which captures a hidden level of Manchester, where the canal runs right through the city centre. It’s an atmospheric image and it’s due to feature in a book about Manchester soon.

‘Sale Water Park’, a reduction linocut by Carolyn Murphy, has gone off to new home from the show.

‘Up In The Air’ exhibition at Middlesex University

At their ‘Up In The Air’ exhibition, Middlesex University MA Fine Art and Fine Art Printmaking students, including Carolyn Murphy, will show exciting new work this December.

For many students this is the culmination of their postgraduate studies. It’s their final show, bringing together work they have developed in 2022 and through the pandemic years. These emerging artists will exhibit together at The Barn, an exhibition space on the Middlesex University campus in Hendon, North London.

Work by Moritz Nicolai

The exhibition draws on themes of transition and new beginnings. At the close of 2022, it provides a collective opportunity to reflect on hopes and change. ‘Up In The Air’ launches ten new emerging artists in midwinter and on the cusp of 2023. The work contemplates identity, fragility and memory. The show includes artworks in diverse media, from painting and sculpture, to printmaking, video and installation.

Postcard for Twitter Art Exhibit 2022

Carolyn Murphy is donating a postcard-sized original artwork to this year’s Twitter Art Exhibit in York. A regular contributor to TAE, Carolyn created an etching for the 2022 charity art sale. ‘Staying local’ is hand-coloured with watercolours and it’s based on a sketch she made during the lockdowns last year. The work shows a scene on her doorstep and holds onto the small patches of nature in the urban environment.

‘Staying local’ and over a thousand other artworks will go on sale at the charity art sale on Saturday 25 June, and online, in aid of the Encephalitis Society. To find out more about Twitter Art Exhibit, check out them out on Twitter @twitartexhibit or via the Twitter Art Exhibit website. This year, Carolyn has contributed blog posts as one of the volunteer official Twitter Art Exhibit bloggers. You can see posts from Carolyn and others here.

New to North Wales Print Fair 2018

On Saturday 10 November and Sunday 11 November, Carolyn Murphy joins a fantastic line-up of over 45 printmakers from across the UK at this year’s North Wales Print Fair. The Print Fair takes place at Llandudno’s Mostyn Gallery, with its beautiful Edwardian spaces.

The North Wales Print Fair is in its second year and is organised in partnership with the Regional Print Centre in Wrexham. Open 10.30 am to 5pm both days, the Fair is a fantastic opportunity for shoppers to buy affordable and original art direct from the artists, in plenty of time for Christmas.

This is Carolyn’s first time at the North Wales Print Fair. She’ll be showing original limited edition linocuts and etchings on her stall, some created specifically for the event, alongside her cards and new Christmas cards.

Everyone is very welcome. There will also be relief print and monoprint workshops and demonstrations from Ffowndri and a pop-up café at Mostyn over the Print Fair Weekend.

Work currently available to buy can be found in the Shop.
